Shri Bhaskar Yadavrao Pawar – A Life Devoted to Service and an Inspiring Legacy

Shri Bhaskar Yadavrao Pawar was born on 4 March 1926 in Mehkar Taluka, Buldhana District, Maharashtra. From a young age, he actively participated in social causes. His education continued up to the sixth standard. During that period, World War II was underway, and the British government was recruiting youth for the army. One day, after school, a British recruitment vehicle arrived in his village. Without informing anyone, Bhaskar handed his schoolbag to a friend, boarded the truck, and left to join the army. In his early youth, he served the nation with dedication and later dedicated his entire life to serving the elderly, the needy, and the underprivileged.

Service in the Indian Army:

Shri Bhaskar Yadavrao Pawar joined the Indian Army during his youth. The rigorous training and disciplined lifestyle shaped him into a responsible and committed soldier. After years of service to the country, he retired, but retirement for him did not mean rest; it marked the beginning of a new chapter of social service.

Service at BARC, Mumbai, and the Path Ahead:

After retiring from the army, he worked at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai. There too, he served with discipline and dedication. The central government allotted him four acres of land under a new tenure scheme for agriculture after his army retirement. Instead of using all the land solely for farming, Bhaskar Pawar decided to devote one acre of it, along with his pension, to establish an old age home in his own residence for the welfare of the community—and he fulfilled this vision.

Establishment of the Old Age Home – A Philanthropic Endeavour:

Using his pension, Bhaskar Pawar started an old age home on one acre of land within his residence. Initially, he took care of just two elderly residents.
His aim was not only to provide them shelter but also to ensure that they lived with dignity, love, and self-respect. Witnessing his noble work, several philanthropists came forward to support him. Over time, the home expanded, and more elderly people found comfort and care. His dedicated efforts earned him recognition as an ideal figure in social service. Elderly individuals from all walks of life and religions found solace and family under his care. Bhaskar Pawar later registered Manavseva Vruddhashram Trust. Unfortunately, the trustees he had appointed turned out to be inactive and uncooperative, causing him unnecessary trouble and providing no real support. Yet, undeterred, Bhaskar Pawar continued his service for the elderly. His contributions were widely acknowledged, and many institutions honoured him with awards and certificates of appreciation.

Facilities at the Old Age Home:

The old age home boasts a beautiful garden and a modern gymnasium for physical fitness. Various cultural and religious programs are regularly held to bring peace and mental well-being to the residents. Birth anniversaries and memorial days of great personalities, as well as special occasions, are celebrated with enthusiasm. The elderly residents here, in the twilight of their lives, find an atmosphere filled with love, warmth, and respect. They live in contentment—physically, mentally, and socially—and their faces reflect peace, gratitude, and joy.

An Inspiring Life:

Shri Bhaskar Yadavrao Pawar dedicated his entire life to the service of his country and society. Even after fulfilling his duties in the army, he continued to create a new benchmark for social service after retirement. His altruism inspired many and awakened a new sense of responsibility toward the elderly in society. His life was a saga of selfless service. Honouring his contributions and carrying forward his legacy is the truest tribute we can offer him.

Our Story

What we do & how we started

Baba Bhaskar Pawar Vrudhashram Trust was established in 2013  by Late Shri Baba Bhaskar Pawar, a retired military personnel who devoted his post-retirement life to the service of the elderly and physically challenged. His dream was to provide a safe, dignified, and compassionate place for the needy, regardless of their caste, community, or religion. After his passing away, his son, Mr. Amar Pawar, who carries on his father’s work with unshakeable commitment, makes sure that each of the residents at the Vrudhashram gets the care, respect, and love they are worthy of. Situated in Sakawar Village, Virar East, District Palghar, Maharashtra, the Vrudhashram is an area of one acre of land that has been inherited through generations in Mr. Amar Pawar’s family. Running as a non-governmental organization with no government funding the trust survives and functions only on the basis of public donations and community support
